Armenia and EU prioritize economic resilience and regional peace

Armenian Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met European Commission Director-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood Gert Jan Koopman on October 24 to review progress on implementing the Armenia-EU Strategic Partnership Agenda.

The discussions focused on initiatives to strengthen Armenia’s energy and economic resilience, with particular attention to diversifying foreign trade. Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of fully utilizing the opportunities created by the adoption of the European Union regulation on autonomous trade measures for Armenian products.

The two officials also exchanged views on potential steps to further consolidate peace and ensure its consistent institutionalization. They discussed projects aimed at expanding transport infrastructure networks with Armenia’s participation, in line with the principles of the Crossroads of Peace initiative.

The sides also addressed upcoming high-level engagements.

The European Commission has allocated 34 million euros to Armenia to mitigate the impact of Russian trade restrictions on the private sector. This financial assistance represents the first tranche of a comprehensive support package announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, which includes trade facilitation and solidarity measures aimed at strengthening Armenia’s economic resilience.
