Mirzoyan rules out Armenia’s return to CSTO

Armenia has no plans to resume participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan said, commenting on remarks by former CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Mirzoyan said Yerevan would not reconsider its position, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Bordyuzha had said Armenia should be expelled from the CSTO because it does not participate in the organization’s activities, while all decisions must nevertheless be coordinated with Yerevan.

“We suspended our participation in the activities of this organization a long time ago and froze our membership. And if the other members of the organization or its General Secretariat — although I do not know how much authority the Secretariat actually has in this matter… We will not change our position, and we do not envisage returning to the CSTO,” Mirzoyan said.

Earlier, CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov announced that the issue of Armenia’s expulsion from the organization could be raised at the CSTO Collective Security Council meeting scheduled for November 11, 2026, in Moscow.
