Mirzoyan says faster reforms mean quicker EU visa liberalization

Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan addressed the ongoing visa liberalization process with the European Union and its possible completion timeline during a joint press conference with Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs.

“The faster we work, the sooner, I hope, we will achieve a positive outcome from this process,” the minister said, according to 1lurer.am.

He noted that Armenia has so far made relatively rapid progress, even by the standards of similar visa liberalization processes, and has received support from the EU and its member states. At this stage, however, more of the work remains to be done by the Armenian side.

“If you are asking about a specific completion date, I think it would be right to tell Armenian society that it depends on us, from making legislative amendments to completing the technical procedures that need to be carried out,” he said.

The visa liberalization dialogue between Armenia and the European Union was launched in September 2024. In 2025, the European Commission provided Yerevan with the Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan. It included 74 benchmarks divided into four main areas. Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan has reported significant progress in the visa liberalization process with the European Union.
