Former Armenian parliamentarian and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) member Artsvik Minasyan has been elected to Armenia’s Commission for Competition and Consumer Protection. His candidacy for the position was nominated by the opposition Hayastan and Strong Armenia parliamentary factions.
A total of 100 lawmakers participated in the closed, secret ballot. Of those, 58 voted in favor of Minasyan’s candidacy, while 42 voted against, Sputnik Armenia reports.
During a speech in parliament, Minasyan announced that he had terminated his membership in the ARF, explaining that the decision was prompted by a legal requirement.
Two closed, secret ballots were held simultaneously in the National Assembly. The ruling Civil Contract parliamentary faction nominated Shushan Sargsyan for the other vacant seat on the Commission for Competition and Consumer Protection. She was also elected to the commission.
In March this year, another ARF representative, former National Assembly member Tadevos Avetisyan, was elected to the same commission.
