Pashinyan: New Constitution draft likely to be published in November

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced that the draft of a new Constitution will most likely be presented to the public in November, after which extensive discussions will begin. He made the announcement during a speech at the National Assembly.

“We will publish the draft of the new Constitution soon, before the end of the year, and there is a strong possibility that it will be in November,” Pashinyan said, according to Panorama.am.

The prime minister explained that the Ministry of Justice had prepared the draft Constitution “on the prime minister’s instructions.” According to him, public consultations will begin as soon as the document is published, with proposals being received and discussed.

“This will continue until we are convinced that the draft of the new Constitution has been sufficiently discussed among the public. After that, we will organize further consideration of the draft.

“Up to a certain point, the process is quite predictable: we will revise and refine the document, the government will approve the draft and send it to the National Assembly, and discussions will begin. Subsequent developments will depend on those discussions,” Pashinyan said.

Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan has announced that the draft of Armenia’s new Constitution will be presented to the public in the coming weeks. The minister specifically emphasized that the document to be released for public consideration is not final.

During a press briefing, Pashinyan said public consultations would begin soon, after which the draft would be submitted to parliament. The ruling political force would then seek to convince the opposition that the issue is of great importance and a matter of principle.
