Pashinyan warns opposition parties of ‘political disaster’

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that there are insufficient domestic resources to implement a so-called “secret plan” in Armenia and that its authors are attempting to secure external support. He added that “operating under the patronage of guarantors will end in political disaster for the opposition.”

He made the remarks while presenting the draft 2027 state budget at the National Assembly.

According to Pashinyan, there are forces both inside and outside Armenia whose main objective is to prevent the country from entering a historic new phase, 1lurer.am reports.

“Even previously, since 2018, we have not been unaware of this perception and logic. It is simply that, in 2026, the cards have been laid on the table. Certain forces have simply been tasked with ensuring that the Republic of Armenia cannot fulfill its economic commitments or continue along the path of economic development that has been outlined,” he said.

The prime minister described this process using a provisional title that, according to him, its authors themselves have also adopted: “secret plan.”

“Within Armenia, there are no resources to implement this ‘secret plan,’ and its authors must do everything possible to attract external resources.

“It is clear and obvious, and I do not want to conceal the fact that this plan has support in certain circles of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and certain circles in the Russian Federation. There are reasons for this as well, because people have been sent to Armenia with very specific promises and guarantees,” he said.

Pashinyan argued that the history of the Armenian people shows that situations involving guarantors have ended in disaster. He also claimed that the activities of Armenia’s opposition are linked to guarantees provided by certain guarantors.

“But this time, fortunately, operating under the patronage of guarantors will end in political disaster for our respected opposition colleagues.

“Since I have sufficient information to make such an assertion, I am simply doing our opposition colleagues a favor by telling them that they still have time to avoid that disaster. I am referring to the political disaster facing the opposition political parties, which you are aware of,” he said.

Pashinyan added that, in this situation, there can be only one guarantee, and that guarantee is the Armenian people.
