Armenia cuts PM’s office budget as parliament funding rises

Under Armenia’s draft 2027 state budget, funding for the prime minister’s office is set to decrease by 6.4%, while allocations for the president’s office and parliament will increase.

Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan presented the proposed figures on November 3 during a joint meeting of the National Assembly’s standing committees on state and legal affairs and on financial, credit and budgetary affairs.

According to the minister, spending allocated to the prime minister’s office will fall by 1.6 billion drams, or 6.4%, next year, bringing the total to 24 billion 250 million 396 thousand drams, Sputnik Armenia reports.

In particular, funding for the public sector modernization program will be reduced by 2.1 billion drams. At the same time, allocations for ongoing operations and protocol events will decrease by 630 million drams, reaching 7.2 billion drams.

By contrast, the government plans to significantly increase funding for protecting Armenia’s interests before international judicial bodies. A total of 4.75 billion drams will be allocated for this purpose in 2027, exceeding the corresponding 2026 figure by 870 million drams.

The draft budget also provides for increased funding for the offices of Armenia’s president and National Assembly. Allocations for the president’s office will rise by approximately 11%, reaching 1.79 billion drams. Parliamentary spending will increase by 8.5%, totaling 7.59 billion drams.

For both institutions, the higher allocations also include increases in spending on ongoing operations and representational activities.
