The public opinion poll conducted among 10 000 Germans by RTL television and Stern magazine in order to feel out their attitude toward Turkey’s joining the EU showed that 57% of the people questioned were against Turkey’s membership in the EU, 38% were in favor and 500 people found difficulty in responding. To note, during his recent visit to Turkey Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder promised Ankara to support its membership bid on the term of continuation of reforms.
