MOSCOW AGAINST REVIEWING STRATEGIC BALANCE IN CAUCASUS, RUSSIAN FM DEPUTY STATED

Being the adherent of stabile and peaceful Caucasus Russia is against the reviewing of the strategic balance of forces in the region, deputy to the Russian FM Alexander Chizhov stated. At the same time he emphasized that Moscow will not allow “to oust” Russia from the Caucasian region. The diplomat expressed satisfaction with the fact that Russia’s dialogue with the US and the EU on the Caucasian issues bears consistent nature. In Chizhov’s opinion, taking into consideration the extremely complicated situation in the region with “high conflicting potential” it is necessary to act with a great deal of cautiousness there”. “Our cooperation urges frankness. Each decision should be transparent and predictable”, he said. Russian FM deputy pointed out Russia’s readiness to “cooperate with the European Union and all the states and international organizations, which wish to contribute to resolving of problems in the Caucasus and to the development of economic cooperation there”. Russia is against artificial competition and military-political confrontation in the Caucasus, the Russian diplomat stated.
