PACE OFFERED ASSISTANCE FOR ESTABLISHING DIALOGUE BETWEEN ARMENIAN LEADERSHIP AND OPPOSITION

According to CE Secretary General Walter Schwimmer, the debates on situation in Armenia held in Strasbourg during the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe were dedicated to the establishment of political dialogue in the country. In his words, the debates aiming at “the stabilization of situation in Armenia and preservation of democratic principles and values in the country as well as at the contribution to the establishment of dialogue between the leadership and opposition”, were put on the PACE agenda quite unexpectedly. “The political crisis can be solved by means of dialogue only”, CE Secretary General underscored. He also informed of readiness to send his representative to Yerevan to practically establish the dialogue between the leadership and the opposition, a round-table discussion, for instance.
