In 2003 Armenia was a full and active participant of the global counter-terrorism coalition and at present it strengthens its legislation in the field, says the Global Terrorism in 2003 annual report, made public by the US State Department. “Armenian officials, including the President, have many times made statements, condemning terrorism and supporting the US and the global anti-terrorist coalition. Armenia does not support international terrorism or any terrorist group and does not make statements in support of terrorism or any country, supporting terrorism,” the report says. According to the State Department data, Armenia sustains diplomatic and economic relations only with two countries the US has included in the list of the states sponsoring terrorism – Iran and Syria, where many Armenians live. “Armenia was very prudent in public statements on the war in Iraq, mainly due to the considerable Armenian population in that country, however since then voluntarily providing military elements for post-war rehabilitation. The Government has also offered engineering and medical forces for operations for sustaining stability in Iraq,” the report notes.
