The rights of Azerbaijani Muslims are infringed by the acting legislation, which bans polygamy, Islamic Party of Azerbaijan stated. In the islamists’ opinion, polygamy will contribute to elimination of prostitution in the country and will help to decrease the number of unprotected women and children. Members of the Islamic Party are going to appeal to the Milli Mejlis deputies with a request to put the issue of permitting polygamy on the agenda.
