NEW ARMENIAN BILL ON RALLIES AND MARCHES “STEP IN RIGHT DIRECTION”, US DIPLOMAT CONSIDERS

The US considers that the bill On Rallies and Marched adopted in Armenia is “a step in the rights direction”, deputy to the US Ambassador to the OSCE Douglas Davidson stated addressing the sitting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna. At the same time the American diplomat called on the Armenian government to continue cooperating with experts of the Council of Europe and other organizations for “the further perfection of the bill and bringing it to the level of international standards”. “The US has been for a long time concerned over the fact that the Administrative Code remains valid in Armenia and administrative arrests are being practiced”, Douglas said. “We expect the authorities to thoroughly investigate the assaults at political activists”, he said.
