Azeri officer Ramil Safarov, who brutally killed an Armenian serviceman in Budapest, has confessed to the crime. According to a statement released by the Budapest Police, Safarov said he had planned the murder as revenge for “Armenians killing Azeris in the course of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict in 1992,” Associated Press reported. It should be reminded that February 19 lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan Ramil Safarov hacked Armenian officer Gurgen Margarian with an ax in the dormitory when taking English language courses within the NATO Partnership for Peace program. At the time the Police stated that the murder had been committed “with unusual cruelty,” reporting Safarov tried to kill another Armenian officer. “There was no tension or hostility between the victim and the criminal before the murder,” the Budapest Police statement says. In compliance with the statement, Safarov confessed he had planned the murder for February 26 – “the anniversary of the Armenian offensive, when tens of Azerbaijanis were killed in Nagorno Karabakh.” However, he committed it before that day, as “the presence of Armenians made him nervous.” The investigators suggested the Office of the Prosecutor General of Hungary to bring a charge against Safarov “in premeditated murder committed with unusual cruelty.”
