TWO OPPOSITION ACTIVISTS RELEASED IN ARMENIA

Member of the political council of the Republic opposition party Aramazd Zakarian and head of the Talin regional branch of the party Zhora Sapeian were discharged from criminal-executive institution of Yerevan-Center yesterday evening. As investigator of the General of Prosecution Office Khachatrian told Liberty broadcasting station, Zakarian and Sapeian “repented of their deeds and made their apologies”. To remind, they were arrested in early April due to the criminal case initiated against Justice opposition bloc and accused of “insulting the leadership”. Investigator Khachatrian also reported that the preliminary investigation had been finished and the case of detained Communist Party member Atrak Gabrielian, who was spreading leaflets, was submitted to the court. As Liberty came to know from an anonymous source, it is not ruled out that Republic party leaders Vagharshak Harutyunian and Suren Sureniants will be also discharged soon.
