ARMENIAN OFFICERS ARRIVED IN BAKU SECRETLY, AZERI PARLIAMENT SPEAKER STATED

NATO cannot conduct any measures over the head of the Azerbaijani leadership, deputy and ex-presidential contender Sabir Rustamkhanly stated at the sitting of the Azeri parliament yesterday, Zerkalo Azeri newspaper writes. A number of other deputies joined the statement pointing out to the inadmissibility of Armenian servicemen’s arrival in Baku for the participation in the planning conference on Cooperative Best Effort-2004 NATO exercise within Partnership for Peace program. According to the newspaper, Azeri parliament chairman Murtuz Aleskerov’s efforts to suppress such speeches were vain. Finally he told that he himself is against the participation of the Armenian officers in the Baku conference, but the “Armenians arrived in Azerbaijan in an underhand way”. In this view the newspaper wonders from whom the Armenians tried to hide their arrival. “If they arrived secretly from him, the head of the legislative body, member of the Security Council, so we – citizens of Azerbaijan – should thoroughly think over the fate of our fatherland”, Zerkalo writes.
