TURKEY REFUSED OSCE PRESIDENCY IN 2007

Last week the Turkish government officially told the OSCE about its refusal to assume the organization presidency in 2007, reported Californian Courier Armenian newspaper being issued in the US. It should be reminded that Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian lately stated Yerevan might avail itself of veto when discussing Turkey’s candidacy for presiding at the OSCE. As written by the newspaper, by means of that step Ankara is probably trying to make Armenia understand that in the near future it does not pursue the goal of establishing diplomatic relations with Yerevan. Or maybe Turkey does not wish the international community to perceive the future positive steps towards Armenia, made under the EU pressure, as a forced concession in the face of Armenia’s threat to exercise veto, the article notes.
