KARS RESIDENTS SUGGESTED TURKISH GOVERNMENT OPEN ARMENIAN BORDER

50 thousand residents of Kars Turkish town have signed the appeal to the country government suggesting to open the Armenian-Turkish border. As reported by a Turkish Internet source, the letter notes that being next to the border gives certain advantages to other cities. However, due to the 10 years’ blockade of the Armenian-Turkish border, the “western gates” never became the stimulus for Kars so as to provide for its internal dynamics and commercial activity. According to the source, Kars gradually gives up isolation from the world. The social and economic conditions are horrible: there is no production in the town, 19% of the residents are illiterate. As noted by the sources, taking into account the number of Kars residents hardly reaches 130 thousand, making 325 thousand along with the residents of neighboring settlements, the 50 thousand who signed the message is a considerable index.
