AZERBAIJAN INCREASING MILITARY CONTINGENT IN IRAQ

A number of countries made a request to the US for increasing their military contingent in Iraq. According to Washington post, Azerbaijan, for instance, is going to bring the number of the servicemen from 150 to 400. As Azeri expert Arif Yunus told 525 Baku newspaper, official Baku took the decision through press of the US. Taking into account the complicated situation in Iraq and continuing terrorist acts committed by the Iraqi rebels against the coalition troops he did not rule out that Azeri soldiers can also be taken prisoners. In the expert’s opinion, such an incident may cause tension in Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, as reported by the newspaper, Azeri MFA stated that Baku has no intention of increasing its contingent in Iraq.
