Members of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany demand postponing the adoption of a decision on the beginning of talks on Turkey’s accession to the European Union. As reported by NTV Turkish channel, Chairman of the EU Foreign Affairs Commission Elmar Brok and Chairman of the Commission for EU Affairs of the German Federal Council Mathias Visman have stated that no decision should be made in December on Turkey’s accession to the EU and the prerogative of deciding the issue should be left to the EU Council, which will have new composition after the election. Brok and Visman demand “privileged partnership” for Turkey instead of full EU membership. They stated that “there is much to be done” by Turkey to realize reforms launched.
