“We are rather far from the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement,” NKR President Arkady Ghukasian told journalists in Yerevan after the meeting with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. In his words, during the meeting they considered the issue referring to the conflict settlement. At that no new proposals were submitted. “There is no final package on the issue but there are plenty of disputable questions,” Ghukasian said. “I represented the position of Karabakh and stressed that Baku’s militaristic statements cannot contribute to constructive negotiations,” NKR leader noted.
When touching upon the possibility of settling the conflict in 2005 Arkady Ghukasian said, “It is hard to say whether we are close to settlement or not. If Armenian President Robert Kocharian says the parties are close to settlement it means he has reasons to say that. For their part the mediators do not conceal that taking into account the normal political situation in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karabakh the year of 2006 may be suitable for resolving the problem. Whether it is possible or not only Nostradamus can answer this question. All are interested in the soonest settlement of the conflict. There is no power wishing war. I suppose the aggressive statements by official Baku do not reflect the will of the Azerbaijani people,” reported IA Regnum.
