Armenian FM: 2005 a Year of Armenia Intense Activities in CE

The year 2005 was that of Armenia Intense activities in the Council of Europe, Armenian FM Vartan Oskanian stated at today’s news conference on the results of the MFA activities in 2005. Official Yerevan did not accentuate only matters of fulfilling commitments to the CE, but also had initiatives of importance for further role and activities of the organization. In V. Oskanian’s words, upon passage of the package of Constitutional reforms the process of fulfilling commitments to the CE transferred to the final stage. The reformed Constitution will allow fulfilling the remainder of the commitments to the Council of Europe, V. Oskanian said. The CE via the Venetian Commission closely cooperated with Armenia, providing expert assistance in working out the package. The CE considered the constitutional reforms satisfactory from the point of view of European standards. In the Armenian FM’s words, Armenia was represented at a highest level at all CE important events.
