The stirring up at the Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces’ contact line is possibly conditioned by the engineering works carried out there, RA Deputy Defense Minister, lieutenant general Artur Aghabekyan told journalists. In his words, incidents occurred all the time. “Since 1994 stirring up have been fixed due to engineering works. Not always the positions occupied during the hostilities were convenient from the viewpoint border security and skirmishes took place from time to time,” Aghabekyan noted.
At the same time he noted the stirring up may be conditioned by the processes taking place in the region. “Azeri soldiers and officers watch television and try to express the mood of official Baku at the front like,” he said. The Deputy Minister added that if the firing is purposeful and jeopardizes the security of borders the Armenian side will response. “The contact line has become narrower recently and any target is seen with naked eye. Both we and our opponents know that any unwanted movement can result in causalities,” Aghabekyan said.
