The issue of deployment of Russian frontier guards at the Armenian-Georgian border is not considered yet, commander of the Russian border-guard force in Armenia, General Lieutenant Sergey Bondarev stated. In his words, the Armenian authorities exert effort to equip the sector by strength of the Armenian frontier troops. “14 frontier posts have been already built. The service level is high. I do not think the issue will be raised in the near future,” Bondarev said.
When touching upon the obstacles that emerged lately between Russia and Georgia Bondarev noted that these are being posed artificially by the Georgia party to hamper the activities of the Russian contingent. “Everything depends on the good will of the Georgian leadership. Armenia presents no problem. The checkpoints function without queues and there are no problems with crossing the border. So, the “complicated” issues are just invented, he said, reported the Military-Industrial Express.
It should be noted that there are 4 frontier detachments in Armenia. They are deployed in Gyumri, Armavir, Artashat and Meghri. The border is guarded by 59 posts counting 4.5 thousand people. The extension of the Armenian border makes 375 km. The frontier with Turkey makes 330 km and with Iran – 45 km.
