Lyons French city court has repealed the authorization to establish a monument in the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The court grounded its decision by “Lyons City Administration calling to question the lawfulness of the erection of the monument.” Residents of the district, where the monument was to be established, played a significant role in the court decision by sending statements to the respective authorities. Meanwhile, Lyons Mayor Gerard Colomb accused those protesting against establishment of the monument in “unleashing a guerilla war in the legal framework.” To remind, the decision to erect a monument to the victims of the Armenian Genocide outraged Turkish nationalists, who organized a protest action March 18. Only owing to police’s interference the action did not pour into a collision between the Armenian community and Turkish radicals, reports the Marmara referring to the Milliyet.
