NKR Confirms Adherence to Peaceful Settlement of Karabakh Conflict

“Violations of the ceasefire at the Nagorno Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijani armed forces’ contact line have become more frequent recently. This might be caused by the improper assessment of Baku’s militaristic statements sounded at the highest level,” the statement issued by the NKR Foreign Ministry says.

The statement says in part, “The incidents that result in causalities at the frontline strengthen mutual distrust and can bring to escalation in the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict region. In this view the Nagorno Karabakh Republic confirms its adherence to the peaceful settlement of the conflict and readiness to meet the commitments of the parties to strengthen the ceasefire agreement concluded February 6, 1995 by the defense ministers of NKR, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

We call upon both parties – Azerbaijan and Armenia – that signed the above mentioned agreement to join our initiative and voice hope that with joint effort with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs and other international mediation as well as the parties concerned we will succeed in implementing the mechanisms fixed in the agreement and localize the incidents at the contact line.

The Nagorno Karabakh Republic reiterates that a peaceful process with the participation of all the parties to conflict, creation of the atmosphere of mutual trust and democracy strengthening and respect for human rights are the preconditions of the peaceful settlement of the conflict.”
