White House Tries to Attract Baku in Future Anti-Iranian Coalition

Washington has fixed eyes on countries neighboring Iran. Azerbaijan is among these, Azeri political scientist Elhan Shahinoglu writes in the Echo newspaper. In his words, at first Deputy FM Araz Azimov was invited to Washington. Upon his return Azimov said possible threats to national security of Azerbaijan were discussed during the talks.

«In a few days Azeri FM went to Washington. Aliyev will close the series of trips to Washington. Though officials in Baku say the country will not join the anti-Iranian coalition, the trips may means Azerbaijan is already involved in anti-Iranian discussions,» the Azeri political scientist says.

At that he indicates «symbolic information» from Washington. «Firstly, it was announced that the US has new proposals on the Prague Process on the Karabakh issue. Secondly, the US increases military assistance to Azerbaijan. The White House is looking for approaches to official Baku, trying to attract the country in the future anti-Iranian coalition. If US asks for Azerbaijan’s support in the Iranian issue, in exchange official Baku can demand a plan of settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict that is favorable to the country,» Shahinoglu believes.
