NATO Summit Dropped Hint at Georgia’s Accession

During the NATO summit in Riga Georgia was signaled that it will become a NATO member state, Georgian parliament speaker Nino Burjanadze told reporters in Riga where she participated in the NATO summit as a guest.
“Yesterday and today we received messages. Not only from the Latvian President, who always renders support to Georgia but also from the NATO Secretary General, who underscored that Europe’s security will be ensured only when all European states, which are wishing and ready, become NATO members,” she said. Burjanadze also pointed out to the fact that U.S. Senator Richard Lugar Lugar reiterated Georgia should become NATO member state “I would like to remind that he was one of those who first said that Baltic states will join NATO,” she said, reports Kavkaz-Press.
