Can NKR Become an Example for other Countries in Democracy?

First, the Constitutional referendum in Nagorno Karabakh was addressed to the world community. Both the USA and the EU talk much about democratization as a very important factor for settling the ‘frozen’ conflicts. The NKR performed adherence to this approach, Sergey Markedonov, a political scientist of from the Institute Political and Military Analysis told a PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent. In his words, now it will be very difficult the world community to say that Karabakh does not correspond to minimal democratic standards.

“Now a difficult question arises. How correlate such notions as ‘conflict settlement’ and ‘territorial integrity’? Will it be possible to sacrifice democratic procedures for the sake of territorial integrity of a less democratic state. From the other side, is the NKR an ethnic democracy, which provides freedom for the Armenians at the cost of expelling the Azeris from seven regions and Nagorno Karabakh? Is the world community ready to acknowledge that the Armenian ethnic democracy is better than a new conflict to restore justice? There are no answers for this questions yet. And I think that there will be no answers for these questions for a ling time ahead. It was a signal for the community of the NKR that their future is connected with elections and not with bureaucratic games. Also it is very important for Armenia, which should strengthen the democratic tendencies in the country. Here the NKR can become an example for the RA,’ underlined the Russian political scientist.
