Not a single party represented in the parliament can alone address interests of the nation and the state in the world, Raffi K. Hovhannisyan, leader of opposition “Heritage” party, which overcame the 5-percent barrier stated to a press conference in Yerevan. “Armenia is in a very difficult situation: the unsettled Nagorno Karabakh conflict, absence of relations with Turkey and unstable situation in the region give reasons for more active cooperation with various parties both in the parliament and outside of it,” he stressed.
Leader of “Heritage” underlined that positive estimation from the international community for the elections in Armenia is not a reason for complacency yet. “It is important for us that the Armenian nation would recognize these elections as free and fair. We deserve more democratic elections,” Hovhannisyan said, adding that the Electoral Code needs reforms, particularly in those provisions, which ban Armenian citizens to vote abroad.
The Republican Party of Armenia led by Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan, Prosperous Armenia party led by entrepreneur Gagik Tsarukyan, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, Orinats Yerkir party led by former RA NA speaker Artur Baghdassaryan and Heritage party led by Armenia’s first Foreign Minister Raffi K. Hovannisian garnered over 5% of votes in the May 12 parliamentary election.
