Five British embassy employees released in Tehren

Five British embassy employees arrested in Tehran by local security forces have been released. The rest are still under interrogation.

All in all, 9 Iranian embassy employees were arrested for participating in disorders following June 12 elections.

Relations between two countries exacerbated after Iran accused Great Britain of fuelling the unrest after presidential elections in which Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared as winner.

London condemned Iranian authorities’ actions. “This is harassment and intimidation of a kind that is quite unacceptable,” said David Miliband, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. “We want to see them in freedom, safe and sound,” BBC-Russia reports.

Ballot recounting process started on Monday. Iran’s Supreme Council members demanded that 10% of ballots be recalculated at random choice. Vote recounting started in Tehran and several Iranian provinces.

Mir-Hossein Mousavi, one of defeated pro-opposition candidates, rejected the proposal, calling for repeated voting.
