Action timetable set in protocols not allow Ankara to make an unexpected move

Terms set in the Protocol on establishing diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey are mechanisms, which will not allow Ankara to take unexpected step towards Armenia, Stepan Grigoryan , the head of the Analytical Center on Globalization and Regional Cooperation told a press conference in Yerevan today.

“The documents clearly indicate the timing of any action and it will not allow Turkey to make another step,” the Armenian expert said. However, as he also said, these documents may be ideal, but the question is whether they will be perfectly executed or not.

According to Sterpan Grigoryan, the protocol says nothing about establishing a commission of historians between Armenia and Turkey. “The protocols referrers to the establishment of an intergovernmental commission, which will have its subcommittees. The documents only mentioned about the “historical surface” between Armenia and Turkey and it is clear that the parties must address the different historical issues. For example, the Armenian side may raise the issue of Armenian churches and ancient monuments on the territory of Turkey, ” Stepan Grigoryan said, adding that each document can contain the risk.
