Treaty of Kars has legal force

The Treaty of Kars has legal force, as it has not been denounced by Armenia, according to RA former Foreign Minister.

“Although the Treaty is not mentioned in the protocols, there is a provision saying that Armenia recognizes the territorial integrity of Turkey,” Vahan Papazyan said when responding to a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter’s question.

“The document will be considered legal unless Armenia denounces it,” he said.

Mr. Papazyan emphasized that official Yerevan should have tried to exclude the territorial issues from the protocols and to fix the fact of establishment of diplomatic relations only.

“It’s an ordinary phenomenon in the international practice when countries establish diplomatic relations but do not recognize the territorial integrity of each other. Unfortunately, the protocols prove that Armenia agreed to Turkey’s demands,” he said.
