U.S. recognition of the Armenian Genocide and adoption of a relevant resolution in Congress is a pressure mechanism used by Washington to force Turkey into ratification of protocols, Milliyet Turkish newspaper columnist Kadri Gursel said.
“Although Turkish and Azeri public pressure on Ankara can prevent ratification, Turkey might risk it, basing on some other factors,” the Turkish journalist told a news conference in Yerevan.
As Gursel noted, the issues above are interconnected. ” U.S. House and Senate Resolutions on recognition of the Armenian Genocide are like the Sword of Damocles hanging over Ankara. To prevent Congress from adopting the resolution, President Obama should assure the Congressmen that Turkey will ratify the protocols,” he said,
