The wave of arrests targeting Turkey’s military over an alleged coup plot is not over yet – with reports a further 18 officers have been taken into custody during an operation in 13 cities nationwide.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned in a televised address that “no one is above the law.”
“Those who make plans behind closed doors to crush the people’s will must see that from now on they will face justice,” Erdogan said. “What is happening today is normalization … these are the footsteps of an advanced democracy.”
Earlier this week, 49 senior officers were detained on accusations of plotting to topple the country's Islamist-rooted government in a violent coup.
