Al-Qaeda plans to make Russia’s North Caucasus a part of Islamic caliphate

Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said on October 5 that Al-Qaeda has included Russia's volatile North Caucasus region in its plans to create an Islamic caliphate, or united Muslim state.

"Al-Qaeda's main goal is to establish an Islamic caliphate spanning Central Asia, North and Central Africa and the North Caucasus," Patrushev told a meeting of Security Councils from 44 countries.

"Appeals to Muslim residents in these regions to overthrow their governments are getting more and more common," Patrushev said.

International terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda, have grown into global movements that unite people with shared ideology throughout the world, RIA Novosti quoted Patrushev as saying.
