EU cannot count on Baku’s aid in Europe’s energy security, should it distance itself from assisting Azerbaijan in Karabakh conflict settlement, according to Azerbaijani MP, political expert Rasim Musabekov.
“The statement by Barroso suggests that EU, although recognizing Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, does not intend to help with restoring it. Barroso arrived in Azerbaijan to discuss Nabucco and other projects, yet you can’t expect something from Azerbaijan without offering anything in return,” SalamNews cited him as saying.
During his visit to Baku, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said the Karabakh issue should be settled based on territorial integrity, peoples’ right for self-determination and peaceful settlement of the issue. However, Azeri media cited only “territorial integrity” as mentioned by Barroso.
