Putin reports sharp rise in migrant expulsions

The number of undocumented migrant expulsions from Russia has increased 2.6-fold, or by 85%, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“There have been 2.6 times more expulsions. The increase is 85%,” he said, Lenta.ru reported.

The Russian president expressed support for targeted recruitment of migrants. According to him, such an approach would, among other things, help ensure the rights of those arriving in Russia.

“They [countries from which migrants arrive] are interested in us jointly preparing people who want to come to Russia for work, preparing them for that work and for life in Russia,” he said.

Putin said particular attention should be paid to teaching the Russian language before migrants leave for Russia.

The number of migrants working in Russia’s construction sector has increased over the past year.
