Goris mayor Arushanyan to run in alliance with Civil Contract

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed during a briefing the issue of incumbent community head Arush Arushanyan being a Civil Contract party candidate in the Goris local elections.

“Arush Arushanyan will not run on the Civil Contract party list. Instead, Civil Contract will form an alliance with the party through which Arushanyan will be nominated,” the prime minister said, Radar Armenia reports.

He added that Goris voted for Civil Contract in the 2021 elections, after which Goris voted in the local elections in a way that resulted in Arush Arushanyan being elected community head.

“This is a case where, in some sense, we have yielded to the will of the people and Goris residents,” Nikol Pashinyan stressed.

The prime minister also said the alliance to be formed will be called “Solidarity.”

Elections will be held in 21 communities on October 25. According to the schedule approved by the Central Electoral Commission, proportional elections will be held that day in Artashat in Ararat Province; Armavir and Araks in Armavir Province; Gavar, Martuni and Vardenis in Gegharkunik Province; Hrazdan, Tsaghkadzor and Garni in Kotayk Province; Artik and Akhuryan in Shirak Province; Goris and Meghri in Syunik Province; Yeghegnadzor, Vayk and Jermuk in Vayots Dzor Province; Ijevan and Dilijan in Tavush Province; as well as Stepanavan in Lori Province.
