Papoyan says exports fall mainly in EAEU market

Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan, commenting on Armenia’s export figures, said the only area showing a significant decline is the Eurasian Economic Union market.

He added that goods worth $943 million have been exported this year, compared with about $990 million last year, Radar.am reports.

“The difference is about 5%. I consider this not a bad result, given the restrictions imposed on exports of Armenian fruits and vegetables. When we look at the export figures, we also see that, for example, exports to the UAE are already higher this year — by 46% — and we have growth,” the minister said.

According to Papoyan, the process of export diversification has been quite active in other areas.

“For that purpose, we are offering 4.59 billion drams in support as compensation,” he said.

Rosselkhoznadzor said it had imposed temporary restrictions from June 2 on imports from Armenia of sour cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines and grapes. Restrictions had previously also been imposed on several vegetable crops exported from Armenia. Russia has also banned imports of Armenian Jermuk mineral water, flowers, fish products and certain alcoholic beverages.
