Araghchi says Armenia will not undermine Iran’s security

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Tehran has no concerns regarding the TRIPP project. The Iranian side trusts its Armenian partners and knows that official Yerevan will not take any steps against Iran’s security. Araghchi made the remarks during a press briefing on the sidelines of the COP17 Leaders’ Summit in Yerevan.

“We are in close contact with our Armenian friends. We trust them, and we know they will do nothing against Iran’s security. We are continuing consultations with the Armenian authorities,” he said, Sputnik Armenia reported.

Referring to the latest consultations held in Tehran with Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ararat Mirzoyan, Araghchi described them as productive.

He also reported that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for the second time in the past two weeks.

The leaders of Armenia and Iran previously met in Turkmenistan on October 9.

Earlier, Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ararat Mirzoyan, also addressed Iran’s position on the project, providing details of discussions held during his latest visit to Tehran. According to Mirzoyan, the main issue of interest to the Iranian side concerns the possible presence of armed forces from the United States or any other third country along the TRIPP route. The minister assured that Armenia had provided clear answers to these questions, ruling out any U.S. military presence along the route.
