The United States has donated $1.4 million worth of vehicles and specialized equipment to the Border Guard Troops of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) to enhance border security and protect routes associated with TRIPP, the U.S. Embassy in Armenia reports.
The handover ceremony was attended by Shauna Wilson, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Security Assistance Programs; David Allen, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires; and Colonel Roman Sahakyan, Chief of Staff of the NSS Border Guard Troops.
The initiative is aimed at expanding Armenia’s capacity to protect its borders.
The donation was provided through the U.S. Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program.
“It will contribute to the modernization of Armenia’s border guard service, strengthen border security, and improve the safe movement of people and goods.
“This assistance reflects the United States’ continued commitment to strengthening Armenia’s border management capabilities and supporting regional connectivity, including the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project,” the embassy said in its statement.
