The Netherlands will provide additional financial assistance for efforts to determine the fate of missing persons, Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen announced in Yerevan.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan, Berendsen said the funding would be provided through the International Commission on Missing Persons, Factor.am reports.
Berendsen also welcomed efforts to advance peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and expressed the Netherlands’ support for the signing of a peace agreement.
“It is very important that this process culminates in the signing of a peace agreement, and we support you all the way. In this regard, I am also announcing new financial assistance through the International Commission on Missing Persons to help establish the fate of missing individuals, locate them and identify them,” he said.
The Dutch minister also addressed economic cooperation, including challenges facing Armenia’s floriculture sector. He said diversifying exports and finding markets beyond Russia were among the priorities and offered Dutch assistance in that effort.
According to Berendsen, the Netherlands’ Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries will continue operating in Armenia until at least 2028, helping Armenian products access European markets.
Before arriving in Armenia, Berendsen visited Azerbaijan, where he met Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and President Ilham Aliyev.
