Yerevan hosts official cancellation ceremony for COP17 stamp

An official cancellation ceremony for a postage stamp dedicated to COP17 was held in Yerevan, attended by Hambardzum Matevosyan, COP17 President and Armenia’s Minister of Environment.

The newly issued stamp will hold a special place in Armenia’s postal history, preserving the memory of the international conference being held in Yerevan. It also symbolizes Armenia’s commitments to nature conservation and the importance of international cooperation in addressing environmental challenges.

Hambardzum Matevosyan emphasized that, as the stamp circulates across different countries, it will also serve as a means of conveying Yerevan’s environmental message worldwide. At the heart of that message is the need for collective action to protect the shared future of nature and humanity.

The minister also expressed gratitude to all partners who participated in and supported the design, production and issuance of the stamp.

On the evening of October 18, the official opening ceremony of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) took place at the Meridian Center in Yerevan. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the event and delivered a speech. In his remarks, he stated that Armenia views its COP17 presidency as an opportunity to unite the international community’s efforts and direct them toward practical and tangible results.
