Kobakhidze links Armenia’s EU prospects to Georgia’s progress

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said Armenia’s progress toward European integration depends on Georgia’s own advancement, echoing recent remarks by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Speaking at an EU enlargement summit in Brussels, Kobakhidze was asked whom Pashinyan was addressing and what message he intended to convey, CivilNet reports.

“Particularly when it comes to European integration, it is logical that Armenia’s path depends on Georgia’s progress,” Kobakhidze said.

He thanked Pashinyan for his support and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the neighboring countries.

“We greatly appreciate Mr. Pashinyan’s support. He is an excellent leader and an excellent friend of Georgia. It is important for us to stand together in defending our national interests,” the Georgian prime minister said.

In a November 3 interview with Euronews, Pashinyan also highlighted Georgia’s importance to Armenia’s European aspirations.

Asked which main commitment he would emphasize on the path toward EU membership, Pashinyan replied: “Supporting Georgia. Georgia’s success is extremely important for Armenia, even from the perspective of public perception.”

The Armenian prime minister made a similar point during an address to the European Parliament in March 2026, describing the frozen state of dialogue between the EU and Georgia as, at that time, “the biggest problem” on Armenia’s path toward the European Union.
