The Armenian government has approved an additional 30 million drams to complete a docudrama dedicated to the life and legacy of poet Vahan Teryan, with further filming planned in Russia.
The decision was adopted at a government meeting on November 5. The film is being produced to mark the 140th anniversary of the birth of Teryan, an Armenian poet, public figure and politician, Sputnik Armenia reports.
The project, presented by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, will explore different periods of Teryan’s life, including his literary, public and political activities, using modern filmmaking technologies.
The filmmakers also intend to examine lesser-known or insufficiently researched aspects of Armenian literary history and events connected to the poet’s life.
The ministry described the project as an effort to create a comprehensive cinematic portrayal of Teryan and preserve his legacy for future generations.
Filming is planned in Armenia and Georgia, where the poet was born. Additional shoots are required in Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg and Orenburg, to complete the production.
A total of 25,972,500 drams has already been spent on the project. The newly approved 30 million drams will finance the remaining production work.
The film is expected to be completed in 2027.
