Armenia’s Wings of Unity party has expressed its readiness to cooperate with opposition political and civic groups, calling for a common agenda on sovereignty, national security, constitutional order and national identity.
In a statement, the party said past political disagreements should not prevent cooperation amid what it described as a national crisis.
“We reaffirm our readiness to work with opposition political and civic forces to jointly develop an agenda for protecting Armenia’s sovereignty, national security, constitutional order and national identity, and to coordinate steps toward its implementation,” the statement reads.
The party attributed the need for unity to what it called “interconnected threats of external coercion and internal political pressure.”
It also opposed any move to renounce Armenia’s Declaration of Independence, accusing the authorities of advancing an agenda serving external interests. The party argued that concessions on the issue could lead to further demands.
Referring to investigative actions carried out on November 4 against businessman Samvel Karapetyan and people associated with him, Wings of Unity suggested that the scale and political context of the operations raised concerns about possible pressure on opposition forces.
While declining to comment on the criminal aspects of the case, the party alleged that the actions could be intended to weaken opposition resistance and create favorable conditions for constitutional amendments.
The statement also criticized calls for “public pressure” on the opposition, condemning what the party described as the use of state authority to suppress political dissent.
Wings of Unity said it had learned through media reports about a joint statement issued by opposition forces on November 4 and was prepared to participate in initiatives aimed at political consolidation.
The joint statement was signed by 12 political forces: Strong Armenia, the Armenia Alliance, Hayakve, Country to Live, Prosperous Armenia, the Republican Party of Armenia, the Armenian National Congress, Heritage, Together, Democratic Alternative, New Era and United Armenians.
