Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he expects Armenia and Turkey to establish diplomatic relations in the near future, based on mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity and borders.
Speaking at the World Armenian Summit 2026, Pashinyan responded to a participant’s concerns about Armenia’s border security and Turkey’s recognition of its territorial integrity, Sputnik Armenia reports.
“Of course, Armenia and Turkey have not yet established diplomatic relations, but I am convinced that these relations will be established in the near future, with mutual recognition of each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and borders,” Pashinyan said.
He added that he had no concerns about Turkey’s recognition of Armenia’s territorial integrity, saying there was no objective evidence suggesting a problem.
In September 2025, Turkish special representative Serdar Kılıç visited Armenia for talks on normalizing relations.
According to Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, the sides discussed implementing agreements reached on July 1, 2022, concerning border crossings and agreed to accelerate the process.
