Armenia’s Constitutional Reform Council reviews rights and institutional powers

Armenia’s Constitutional Reform Council has held another meeting to review provisions concerning fundamental human rights, freedoms and obligations.

Members also discussed regulations governing political parties and the powers and functions of independent and autonomous state bodies.

The council examined proposals submitted by two of its members, Daniel Ioannisyan and Grigor Arakelyan.

Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan previously announced that a draft of Armenia’s new Constitution would be presented to the public in the coming weeks, emphasizing that the document would not be a final version.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has also said public consultations would begin soon, after which the draft would be submitted to parliament.

According to Pashinyan, the ruling political force would seek to persuade the opposition of the importance of the proposed constitutional changes.
