Cyprus education minister explores academic cooperation during Armenia visit

Cyprus’ Minister of Education, Sport and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, visited several educational and cultural institutions during her official trip to Armenia, exploring opportunities for academic cooperation and youth development.

Accompanied by Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Kristina Tataryan, Michaelidou began her program at Yerevan State University, where she met Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, according to the Armenian ministry.

The discussions focused on joint research initiatives, academic exchanges for students and faculty, and broader cooperation between Armenian and Cypriot universities.

The sides also considered establishing an Armenian Studies center or department at the University of Cyprus.

The delegation subsequently visited the Alternative Youth Center in Tsaghkadzor to learn about Armenia’s youth programs and facilities.

At the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies, Michaelidou explored the center’s approach to non-formal education, its technology-based learning programs and facilities. She also spoke with students about their interests and experiences.

The visit included tours of the Mesrop Mashtots Matenadaran, where the delegation viewed Armenian manuscript collections, and the History Museum of Armenia, which presented exhibitions tracing the country’s history and cultural heritage.
